Rory has been making woodcuts for a number of years, partly attracted by the simplicity of the process, as only a wooden spoon is needed to print the image and the size is not limited by a press. In recent prints an ink drawing is pasted down in reverse onto a large piece of plywood, then using the oriental method a knife is dragged along the edges of the black areas and the white shapes are then chiselled out. The aim is to preserve the immediacy of the original ink drawing.
